Researcher and teacher: 1969-1974 at the International Institute for Geo-Information and Earth Sciences [ITC], Delft, then Enschede, Netherlands. 1974-76 at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory [Pasadena, CA]. 1976-1984 TU Graz 1^st professorship in photogrammetry; 1992-2013 TU Graz 2^nd professorship in computer science. 1980-1984 Leader of the Institute for Digital Image Processing and Graphics at Joanneum Research.  1992-2013 Leader of the ICG [Institute for Computer Graphics & Vision TU Graz]. 2013 Professor emeritus. Management & Business: 1996 – 1998 CEO, Austrian Institute of Technology [then Austrian Research Centers], Vienna. Founder of Vexcel Corp. [1985, Colorado] and of Vexcel Imaging GmbH [1993, Graz, Austria]. Exit from business by 2006-sale of Vexcel to Microsoft. At Microsoft a Director of Virtual Earth and Bing-Maps evangelist [2006-2007] 377 publications and 15 patents; 1^st doctoral referee to 48 graduates. Honors: IEEE-Fellow 1996; Grand Decoration of Honor in Silver for Services to the Republic of Austria [2006]; Outstanding Technical Achievement Award from the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing [2012]; Brock Gold Medal from the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing [2012].
